Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned escalating Israeli strikes on Lebanon, asserting they undermine ongoing efforts to achieve peace. The strikes, which began Thursday evening, have resulted in 21 deaths and 39 injuries, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. Aoun described the attacks as a “dangerous and condemnable escalation” targeting civilians, including women and children. He specifically linked the strikes to a recently signed agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at de-escalating regional conflicts, including in Lebanon. The president believes Israel is deliberately sabotaging the peace process facilitated by the US-Iran accord. The agreement, signed Wednesday, sought to bring an end to hostilities across the Middle East. This latest violence casts doubt on the prospects for a lasting ceasefire in Lebanon.
