Israeli settlers attacked both Palestinians and European diplomats in the West Bank, territory Israel occupies, according to reports from European nations. The attacks occurred following previous violence where Palestinians were assaulted during their annual olive harvest. A Belgian representative in the Palestinian Territories was among those targeted, as confirmed by Belgian Foreign Minister Prévot, with diplomats from Poland and France also attacked in the Christian village of Taybeh, along with representatives of the Catholic Church. Prévot called on Israeli authorities to protect Palestinians, ensure the safety of diplomats and journalists, and prosecute those responsible, ending impunity for violent settlers. A French mayor was reportedly thrown to the ground during the assault while demonstrating solidarity with Palestinians, and the Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed their diplomats were also attacked but unharmed, deeming the violence “absolutely unacceptable”. Israeli Foreign Minister Saar condemned the settlers, referring to them as “Israeli rioters,” and suggested prior coordination with the Israeli army would have been preferable.
