The Israeli military announced Wednesday it will open criminal investigations into the deaths of six-year-old Hind Rajab in January and 15 aid workers in March, following internal reviews. The investigations stem from incidents occurring during intensive combat in Gaza, adhering to both international and Israeli law, according to the military. While probes were launched into five incidents resulting in Palestinian deaths, the military stated no criminal misconduct was suspected in the April deaths of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers. Hind Rajab’s case involved a desperate plea for rescue after her family’s car was caught in crossfire, eventually discovered alongside the bodies of her relatives and rescuers. Forensic Architecture's investigation pointed to potential tank fire as the cause of death for Hind and her family, and suggested an attack on the ambulance dispatched to save her. These investigations signal a rare step towards accountability amid ongoing conflict in Gaza.
