A new film, ‘Atonement’, centers on a US Marine haunted by a 2003 incident in Baghdad. In April 2003, during a firefight with Iraqi forces, US Marines fired upon a vehicle carrying an Armenian-Christian family. The attack resulted in the deaths of three men within the family. Nearly a decade later, the two surviving women of the family met with the Marine involved in the shooting in Glendale, California. The film explores the Marine’s search for forgiveness from the Iraqi family he harmed during the Iraq War. The story highlights the lasting impact of conflict and the complexities of seeking reconciliation after wartime tragedy.
