British prosecutors have charged two Iranian nationals, aged 35 and 36, with preparing an attack on a synagogue in Manchester, planned for September 20th - the beginning of Yom Kippur. The charges stem from information gathered by the police’s counterterrorism unit, revealing the suspects were allegedly seeking components, tools, and instructions to construct a bomb, alongside potential target locations. One suspect resides in Manchester, while the other is from Liverpool; both were arrested in a northern area of Manchester on the day the attack was intended. Authorities believe the men were in contact with an individual potentially based in Iran, with the Home Secretary citing "serious threats" from the Iranian regime targeting Jewish communities. Both men arrived in the United Kingdom by boat in 2020 and 2023, one receiving political asylum. This incident follows a previous synagogue attack in Manchester last year, which resulted in three fatalities. The two suspects are scheduled to appear in court in London, and police state there is no current link to separate arrests near the Fairford airbase, also suspected of Iranian involvement.
