An environmental group, Wahana Lingkungan Hidup (Walhi) Central Java, has questioned the necessity of a geothermal project on Mount Ungaran, citing an existing electricity surplus in the Central Java-DIY region. The group argues that the project’s urgency is questionable given the current power supply. They suggest alternative solutions should be explored considering the region’s existing energy capacity.
