Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has established a procurement team to address coal supply issues impacting state-owned electricity company PLN. The problem stems from PLN’s previously negotiated, and now considered too-low, purchase prices for coal. This has created difficulties in securing sufficient coal to fuel power plants and maintain electricity generation. The newly formed team will focus on sourcing medium-calorie coal to alleviate the supply constraints. Minister Lahadalia acknowledged the issue and indicated the team’s formation as a direct response to PLN’s difficulties. The move aims to stabilize power supply and prevent potential disruptions due to coal shortages. This intervention highlights the Indonesian government’s commitment to ensuring energy security.
