Indonesia’s Forestry Ministry is requesting an additional 6.23 trillion Rupiah (approximately $390 million USD) for the 2027 fiscal year. The funds are earmarked for bolstering fire mitigation efforts across the country. This increased budget request comes as Indonesia faces recurring challenges with land and forest fires, particularly during dry seasons. Ministry officials cite the need for improved monitoring systems, enhanced rapid response teams, and community engagement programs as justification for the increase. The proposed funding will also support preventative measures, including controlled burns and peatland restoration. Officials hope the investment will reduce the scale and impact of future fire events, protecting both the environment and public health. The request is currently under review by the Ministry of Finance.
