Indonesia’s Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry is working to integrate village cooperatives into the national fish supply chain, specifically targeting connections with the Masyarakat Bina Gambung (MBG) fish supply system. This initiative, known as Red and White Village, seeks to enhance synergy between various sectors to strengthen the Indonesian fishing industry. The ministry believes linking cooperatives directly to the MBG system will improve the welfare of local fishermen and increase the availability of affordable fish for consumers. This strategy focuses on optimizing the distribution of fish from villages to larger markets, reducing reliance on intermediaries. Officials hope this cross-sector collaboration will bolster economic growth in rural fishing communities throughout Indonesia. The program aims to ensure a more efficient and equitable distribution of resources within the national fisheries sector.
