Indonesia is launching the "Red and White Fishermen Village" program, aiming to significantly improve the welfare of its fishing communities by 2027. Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, highlighted the initiative’s focus on modernizing fishing infrastructure and strengthening economic opportunities for fishermen. The program will prioritize the development of integrated facilities including fish markets, cold storage, and processing plants, reducing reliance on middlemen. Furthermore, it intends to enhance access to financing and training for fishermen, equipping them with the skills needed for sustainable fishing practices. The initiative seeks to address income disparities and improve the overall quality of life in coastal communities across Indonesia. This nationwide program promises a comprehensive approach to fisheries development and sustainable coastal economies.
