A significant number of indigenous laborers in Ishwardi, Pabna, Bangladesh have been working for years at the Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) without securing permanent employment or fair wages. Located alongside the Pabna-Ishwardi highway in Muladuli, Ishwardi, the BSRI spans approximately 700 bighas of land and extends across the Aramkola and Baharpur areas. These workers face uncertain job security, low earnings, and limited opportunities for alternative livelihoods, resulting in no improvement in their living conditions despite their prolonged service. The situation highlights ongoing issues of labor rights and economic hardship within the indigenous communities surrounding the institute. The lack of permanent positions and adequate compensation leaves these laborers in a vulnerable state, hindering any prospects for social mobility. Further investigation is needed to address these systemic inequalities within the BSRI and its impact on the local workforce.
