India’s trade policies will be examined by the World Trade Organization (WTO) next week, commencing July 21st, in its eighth Trade Policy Review (TPR). During the review, WTO members will scrutinize recent changes and developments in India’s trade regulations and practices. This process involves both a report by the WTO secretariat and a presentation by Indian officials. Members will then have the opportunity to pose questions and raise concerns about India’s trade regime. The TPR mechanism is a key component of the WTO’s function, ensuring transparency and adherence to trade commitments. India last underwent a similar review in 2015 and the upcoming session will assess changes made since then, covering areas like tariffs, non-tariff barriers, trade facilitation, and relevant legislation. The review aims to promote a deeper understanding of India’s trade policies among WTO members.
