Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three domestically built naval vessels in Kolkata on Sunday, bolstering India’s maritime capabilities. The ships include INS Dunagiri, a technologically advanced stealth frigate, alongside INS Mahendragiri and the yard 45000 (a landing ship). These platforms represent a significant step towards self-reliance in defense production, aligning with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The commissioning ceremony highlighted the increasing role of Indian shipyards in constructing complex warships. INS Dunagiri is a P17A frigate, equipped with modern sensors and weaponry, designed for anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare. The addition of these ships is expected to enhance the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and strengthen its presence in the Indo-Pacific region.
