The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is calling for closer collaboration between the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding cryptocurrency regulation in Ghana. The IMF stresses this cooperation should extend beyond supervising entities regulated by both bodies. It advocates for a comprehensive approach encompassing all existing and potential risks spanning sectors. Crucially, the Fund highlights the need to monitor financial stability risks arising from the cryptocurrency market in Ghana. This collaborative effort, according to the IMF, is vital for effectively managing the evolving landscape of digital assets. Aligning risk assessments between the BoG and SEC is seen as a key step in safeguarding Ghana’s financial system.
