Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), began a week-long working visit to Cameroon on October 11, 2026, arriving in Yaoundé. She was welcomed at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport by Cécile Akeme Nfoumou, President of the Cameroonian Red Cross. The visit, lasting until October 17, 2026, aims to bolster cooperation between the IFRC and the Cameroonian Red Cross, as well as other humanitarian organizations operating in Cameroon. Discussions will center on humanitarian challenges and ways to strengthen collaboration. The IFRC’s attention is focused on the Cameroonian Red Cross as it addresses crises stemming from climate change and both internal and cross-border conflicts. This includes displacement due to floods in northern regions, mass population movements from terrorist attacks in the Far North, and the resulting food and other needs, alongside the pressures from refugee influxes from neighboring countries.
