A human case of anthrax has been confirmed in Tes soum (district) of Uvs province, Mongolia, according to the National Center for Zoonotic Diseases (NCZD). The individual is currently receiving treatment at Uvs United Hospital. Investigations suggest the infection likely occurred through contact with a sheep that died on June 15, 2026. A PCR test conducted on June 21, 2026, at the Uvs Provincial Center for Zoonotic Diseases confirmed the anthrax diagnosis. A joint team from the Uvs Zoonotic Disease Center and veterinary authorities is working in the affected area to conduct surveillance, limit the spread of the infection, and implement outbreak response measures. The NCZD is providing technical and methodological support, ensuring preparedness, and coordinating risk communication and public information campaigns. Further monitoring and control efforts are underway to prevent further cases.
