A revolutionary urban project envisioned by Hugo Chávez has suffered severe structural failure. The development was built by a Turkish construction company that Chávez discovered during a visit to Libya. Located on a plateau in Playa Grande, the complex was known interchangeably as Summa or the Chávez urbanism. Following a double seismic event on June 24, several buildings collapsed in a peculiar manner. Reports indicate that the structures actually sank into the earth, losing one or two levels. Experts suggest that the violence of the earthquakes combined with fragile construction and unstable terrain caused this phenomenon. The situation highlights the failure of a once-ambitious architectural dream.
