Hong Kong police have arrested 16 individuals suspected of defrauding the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) system. The group allegedly used forged medical certificates to falsely claim total incapacity or terminal illness, enabling them to withdraw over HK$4.3 million in retirement savings. Authorities believe a syndicate was responsible for creating the fraudulent documents. The investigation revealed claimants used these certificates to prematurely access their MPF funds. Police announced the arrests on Thursday, indicating an ongoing effort to combat financial crime. Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the fraud and identify any additional individuals involved. The MPF is a compulsory savings scheme for Hong Kong’s workforce.
