A recent survey by the Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions (HKFLU) revealed that over 30% of sanitation workers in Hong Kong are not being informed about heat stress warnings issued by the Labour Department. The HKFLU surveyed 546 workers between May and July to assess awareness of heat-related risks. This lack of communication leaves a significant portion of the workforce vulnerable to heatstroke and other dangerous conditions during increasingly hot weather. The union expressed concern that employers are failing to adequately protect their employees. They urge greater employer responsibility in disseminating critical safety information. The findings highlight a potential gap in workplace safety protocols and raise questions about compliance with existing regulations.
