Hong Kong police reported over 2,100 investment scams in the first six months of 2026, resulting in financial losses of HK$1.6 billion. Despite representing only 10% of all reported deception cases – totaling 20,613 – these investment scams accounted for almost half of the total financial damage. Authorities highlighted the significant impact of these scams on residents' wealth. Police released the data on Friday, warning the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent investment opportunities. The figures demonstrate a concerning trend of sophisticated scams targeting investors in the region. Further investigation and preventative measures are underway to combat this growing problem and protect citizens from financial harm.
