A new book, “What We Carry, Under the Same Sky,” offers a platform for Indonesian migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong to share their personal stories. The collaborative project features essays, poetry, photographs, and artwork created by the workers themselves. It details their journeys from their home villages in Indonesia to life working in Hong Kong. Academics assisted in refining the writing, ensuring clarity and impact. The book aims to highlight the often-unseen emotional and psychological burdens carried by these workers. “What We Carry” provides a unique and intimate glimpse into the lives of a significant, yet often marginalized, community in Hong Kong. It seeks to foster understanding and empathy through firsthand accounts.
