Residents of Helsinki's Alppikyla district, and neighboring areas Jakomäki and Heikinlaakso, have been suffering from an unusually severe fly infestation since June. The scale of the problem appears widespread, significantly impacting the quality of life for those affected. Mira Kapanen, a resident of Alppikyla, reports flies are entering homes and even getting into people’s eyes, ears, and on skin. This has led to sleepless nights and a general sense of distress among residents. The situation has become so bad that Kapanen says living in the area has become “impossible.” Authorities have yet to identify the source of the infestation or offer a solution, leaving residents increasingly frustrated and concerned. Helsingin Sanomat reported on the growing issue, bringing attention to this challenging public health concern.
