France’s intense heatwave is beginning to subside, with most regions seeing a downgrade in alert levels. As of 6 a.m. Sunday, Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France region, along with fourteen other departments, will move from red alert to orange alert status. This signifies a reduced, though still significant, risk from the extreme temperatures. Only two departments – Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin – will remain at the highest level of alert, indicating the most severe danger. The shift follows several days of scorching temperatures across the country, prompting widespread health warnings and preventative measures. Authorities had implemented red alerts, the highest level, in anticipation of record-breaking heat. While the immediate crisis appears to be easing, residents are still advised to take precautions against the heat.
