A Guinean national has been arrested in Senegal for allegedly using a stolen Senegalese national ID card to fraudulently obtain a wifi subscription. The arrest, made by the Faidherbe Research Brigade on September 4, 2026, followed a report from SONATEL, the telecommunications company, regarding suspicious activity. SONATEL alerted authorities after noticing irregularities surrounding the subscription. The suspect confessed to possessing the ID card for several years, claiming she found it in a Dakar nightclub. She further admitted to using it to sign up for an Orange Senegal wifi plan in October 2025. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the ID was obtained and the full extent of the fraudulent activity. The suspect is currently in custody assisting with the inquiry.
