Guatemala’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) is seeking 35 million Quetzales (Q35 million) to implement a program delivering fortified food to those experiencing food insecurity. While the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance (SESAN) will transfer Q20 million from its budget to MAGA, a significant funding gap remains. This shortfall threatens the launch of the vital intervention aimed at addressing nutritional needs within vulnerable populations. The initiative relies on providing fortified food to improve health outcomes for individuals struggling with access to adequate nutrition. Officials are actively seeking additional resources to fully fund the program and ensure its successful implementation. Without the full Q35 million, the scope and reach of the food assistance program will be severely limited. The program is considered crucial in tackling rising food insecurity challenges within the country.
