The Guatemalan National League recently debuted a Video Support System (FVS) for football, implemented following “El Profe’s” return from vacation. This system represents a step towards improved officiating, but falls short of full Video Assistant Referee (VAR) capabilities due to budgetary constraints. The league could not afford the complete VAR infrastructure. “El Profe,” a commentator, immediately weighed in on the FVS’s debut. While the FVS offers some level of video review, it does not provide the comprehensive assistance offered by VAR. This limited implementation reflects the financial realities facing the Guatemalan league, highlighting the challenges of adopting advanced technologies. The introduction of FVS is nonetheless seen as a positive development for Guatemalan football.
