Greece has opened a new, advanced cybersecurity center aimed at strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities. The facility, located at the “Papagou” Camp, will be home to “Unit 1864,” a specialized cybersecurity team. Notably, the entire project was funded through a donation from the Athanasios K. Laskaridis Charity Foundation, representing a significant private sector contribution to national security. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Defense Minister Nikos Dendias presided over the inauguration. The center’s creation underscores Greece’s growing focus on protecting its critical infrastructure and data from cyber threats. Officials anticipate the Directorate of Information Technology and Cyberspace will play a crucial role in safeguarding national interests in the digital realm. The project highlights a collaborative approach to cybersecurity, combining public sector needs with private philanthropic support.
