Greece has implemented a national plan to improve animal welfare during natural disasters, officially launching the National Animal Protection Mechanism on Monday. Previously, rescue efforts were largely uncoordinated and reactive. The new system establishes standardized procedures for animal rescue, care, and temporary housing. A key component is the country’s first dedicated reception center for animals displaced by both natural and human-caused disasters. This initiative aims to provide a more effective and compassionate response to emergencies impacting animal populations. The mechanism seeks to address gaps in previous disaster management protocols and ensure animal wellbeing is prioritized.
