Wildfires are raging across several Greek islands, including Paros, Andros, Lesbos, and Crete, and remain largely uncontrolled due to strong winds exceeding 125 km/h hindering firefighting efforts. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis warned of "difficult days ahead" as conditions are expected to worsen before the weekend. Over 8,000 people, including many tourists, were evacuated from the area near Agia Galini on Crete, though most have since returned home. A fire near Rethymno on Crete is considered the most critical, spreading rapidly through dry vegetation. Dutch travel organization Sunweb relocated over 250 travelers to safety as a precaution, and transport routes are being restored as contained fires allow. Over 100 hectares of forest and olive groves have already been destroyed on Lesbos, and the risk of flare-ups remains high.
