AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine has opened a new GH¢2.8 million piggery center in Sanso, Ghana, aiming to foster economic growth independent of mining. The facility is a key component of the mine’s decade-long Socio-Economic Development Plan. It is projected to increase pig farming output, enhance local food supplies, and generate employment opportunities within the Obuasi Municipality and Obuasi East District. The project seeks to strengthen agricultural businesses at the community level. This initiative represents a deliberate effort to create sustainable livelihoods for residents.
