A new study reveals a significant 40% increase in attacks on education systems worldwide. The research, covering 83 countries, documented over 8,556 incidents in 2024 and 2025 resulting in at least 10,600 students and staff harmed through killings, injuries, abductions, or arrests. Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Palestine, and Ukraine experienced the highest number of reported attacks. The Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) conducted the research, highlighting a growing threat to safe access to education. These attacks disrupt learning and have devastating consequences for individuals and communities. The findings underscore the urgent need for increased protection of students, educators, and educational institutions in conflict zones. Further details are available in the full report.
