Ghana’s Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has clarified the purpose of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT). He stated the NDPT is a pre-established annual event on the national calendar. This clarification comes amidst public discussion linking the prayer event to the recent devastating floods experienced in parts of the country. Afriyie-Ankrah stressed the NDPT is not a reactionary measure to the disaster. He emphasized its long-standing tradition as a national observance for gratitude and spiritual reflection. The event serves as a regular opportunity for national unity and interfaith dialogue, independent of specific crises. This reiteration aims to correct any misinterpretations regarding the event’s origins and intent.
