Ghana’s Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is pressing Ghana Water Limited to implement advanced metering technology. This move aims to improve the accuracy of water consumption tracking across the country. Currently, Ghana Water is facing significant challenges with non-revenue water – water that is lost through leaks, theft, or inaccurate billing. Accurate metering is seen as a crucial step towards reducing these losses and improving financial performance. The PURC believes this technology will enable better monitoring and accountability in water distribution. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of Ghana's water supply system for both the utility and consumers. This modernization is expected to positively impact revenue collection and resource management.
