The Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) is advocating for compensation for 85 businesses destroyed during a demolition at La Pleasure Beach. The demolition has jeopardized roughly 4,000 jobs, disproportionately impacting women, according to the federation. GHATOF is requesting that displaced traders from La Pleasure Beach be prioritized for any future development on the beachfront property. Businesses with valid operating permits claim they did not receive adequate warning prior to the demolitions. Many of these businesses at La Pleasure Beach had operated for decades, significantly contributing to the local economy through taxes and tourism revenue. GHATOF is requesting accountability from the district assemblies and public institutions that originally issued the operating permits.
