Ghana’s National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) conducted a successful raid on an illegal mining site, known as ‘galamsey’, in Ahwiren, Ashanti Region. The operation, driven by intelligence, targeted and dismantled the unlawful mining activity. During the raid, NAIMOS disabled six excavators used in the illegal operation and destroyed associated pumping equipment. Authorities also recovered firearms from the site, suggesting potential security concerns related to the illicit activity. This action underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining and its detrimental effects. The raid in Bekwai Municipality represents a continued crackdown on galamsey operations across the country. NAIMOS aims to curb environmental damage and restore law and order in affected areas.
