The Central Region Rugby Association (CRRA) is working to establish a rugby club within Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in Ghana. This initiative aims to utilize sports as a tool for the rehabilitation and personal development of inmates. A CRRA delegation, headed by Chairman Clement Dennis and PRO Peter Caesar Kwegyir Aggrey, recently met with Ghana Prisons Service officials to discuss the proposal. The project seeks to integrate rugby into the prison’s existing rehabilitation programs. Officials believe the sport can provide inmates with discipline, teamwork skills, and a positive outlet for energy. This collaboration marks a novel approach to correctional facilities in the Central Region and potentially nationwide. The CRRA anticipates a positive impact on the inmates’ well-being and their prospects upon release.
