Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has responded to allegations regarding the handling of funds allocated for the evacuation of Ghanaian citizens from South Africa. Ablakwa has challenged the Minority in Parliament to name any Ghanaian evacuee who did not receive the promised GH¢5,500 allowance. He dismisses accusations of unaccounted funds as a deliberate attempt to fabricate a scandal surrounding the operation. Ablakwa stated that the evacuation exercise concluded on September 4, 2026, and he subsequently provided a full briefing to the press just three days later detailing the operation’s accounting. He specifically refuted claims that some individuals on the evacuation list remain untraceable, or that the allocated funds were not fully accounted for. The Minister is seeking specific evidence to support claims of mismanagement within the South Africa evacuation process. This response comes after scrutiny of the financial aspects of bringing Ghanaian citizens home.
