Germany may experience a natural gas shortage if the upcoming winter is exceptionally cold, according to a report released Tuesday by the German Association of Gas Storage Operators (INES). The association predicts that gas storage facilities in Germany will be, at best, 77 percent full at the beginning of November. As of early September, storage levels were at 53 percent, the lowest recorded for this time of year in the 15 years that INES has been tracking reserves. This raises concerns about the country's ability to meet demand during peak heating season. INES suggests insufficient reserve levels could lead to energy security issues as winter approaches.
