Germany’s governing coalition has secured last-minute support from the Green Party for a new law designed to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy. The agreement centers on the Renewable Energy Sources Expansion Acceleration Act (EABG), which aims to streamline the deployment of wind and solar power. Following negotiations, the expansion targets within the legislation have been increased. Despite the compromise, concerns remain that the law will not fully resolve existing challenges in the energy transition. While hailed as an “energy transition turbo,” the legislation is viewed as a step forward, but not a complete solution. The agreement allows the coalition to move forward with its energy policy agenda, a key priority amidst ongoing energy security concerns.
