Teachers at Ndambine 2000 Secondary School in Xai-Xai, Gaza province, have been on strike since Monday, protesting delayed overtime pay and the removal of a location allowance. The provincial education directorate confirmed the strike and stated the allowance issue stems from a recent administrative division change. The school was previously located in a district where the allowance was provided, but now falls under a district where it is not. Regarding the delayed overtime payments, the directorate acknowledges the issue, attributing it to financial constraints, and reports that debts from 2022 and part of 2023 have been settled. A financial validation process is underway to determine the exact number of affected teachers and the total amount owed. The directorate clarified that the payment issues do not affect all 11,000 teachers in the province, only those working overtime due to large class sizes.
