A new gamification initiative, dubbed “Shooty,” has dramatically increased blood donation rates in Slovakia. The program awards points for each donation, which donors can then redeem for benefits like discounted movie tickets or services. Organizers report a record number of first-time donors and an overall surge in participation. The Slovak National Blood Transfusion Service implemented the system to address a persistent shortage of blood supplies. Initial results show a significant positive impact, with donation numbers exceeding previous years’ figures. The program’s success is attributed to its engaging and rewarding nature, appealing to a younger demographic. Further expansion of “Shooty” is planned to maintain momentum and ensure a stable blood supply.
