Pakistani police have arrested a man accused of holding his wife and children captive for twelve years, subjecting them to physical and psychological abuse. The victim, Sylvie Jasmin, a French citizen, testified that she and her children endured daily violence. Their rescue came after one of her sons escaped and contacted authorities, leading police to a remote home in Bara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Jasmin and her five children were found severely injured and in dire conditions, subsequently taken to a women’s shelter in Peshawar. They are now preparing to return to France. Jasmin stated that after moving to Pakistan from Australia in 2014, she and her children became prisoners in her husband’s control, with two older children dropping out of school and the three younger ones never attending. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the husband, who reportedly lived illegally in Australia before marrying Jasmin in 2003.
