France’s Education Minister, Edouard Geffray, has announced the government will present an “emergency plan” within “a few hours or days” to address the issue of absent teacher replacements. This announcement comes amid widespread student protests and disruptions across the country. Demonstrations are currently taking place in Île-de-France, Lyon, and Marseille. According to the ministry, approximately 375 high schools are either closed or operating with significant disruptions as of Thursday. The “emergency plan” aims to mitigate the impact of these teacher absences on students' education. The extent and details of the plan remain unclear, but the government acknowledges the urgency of the situation fuelled by the ongoing protests. These protests highlight growing concerns regarding staffing levels and educational continuity within the French high school system.
