France has confirmed its first case of Ebola in a doctor recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where a significant outbreak is ongoing. The French Ministry of Health confirmed this is the first positive case detected within the country. Authorities state they are closely monitoring the situation. Ebola is a contagious virus that attacks the immune system, with an average mortality rate of around 50 percent, though intensive care can improve survival chances. Currently, approved vaccines and treatments exist only for one strain of the virus; no treatment is available for the Bundibugyo variant. Infection occurs through contact with bodily fluids of an infected person, which remain highly contagious even after death, necessitating strict protocols for handling deceased patients.
