A new spatial research study from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) reveals an uneven distribution of free nutritious meal (MBG) kitchens across Indonesia. The majority of these kitchens are concentrated in Java, despite the island not necessarily having the highest levels of poverty. Researcher Yanu Endar Prasetyo presented the findings, highlighting a potential mismatch between program placement and need. The study indicates that regions with greater poverty levels actually have fewer MBG kitchens available to their populations. This raises questions about the effectiveness and equity of the program’s current implementation. Further analysis is needed to understand the factors driving this geographical disparity and ensure resources are allocated to those most in need. The research suggests a re-evaluation of the program’s targeting strategy may be necessary.
