A city-wide influenza vaccination campaign has launched in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and will run until October 3rd. This year’s initiative aims to provide free vaccinations to 293,619 citizens considered high-risk, including children aged 0-6, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses. Last year, vaccinations reduced influenza cases in the capital by 13%, with 146,000 people vaccinated. Authorities aim to vaccinate over 80% of children aged 0-6, as they accounted for up to 50% of flu cases last year. The vaccine, a 4-valent type recommended by the WHO and manufactured in South Korea, was purchased through UNICEF with government funding. Full vaccination of target groups is projected to reduce influenza-related risks by up to 75%. Residents can receive vaccinations at their local family health centers.
