Severe wildfires have been ravaging the southwest of France since July 22. The Gironde region has been particularly hard hit by the blazes. According to the Gironde prefecture, at least 42,C,000 hectares of land have already burned. The disaster has forced the evacuation of approximately 220,000 people from their homes. On Sunday, July 26, officials provided an update on the current state of the fires. They reported that the situation remained globally stable throughout the night. No major evolutions or significant shifts in the fire's progress were signaled.
