Five years after France authorized assisted reproductive technology (PMA) for all women, demand for both sperm and egg donations has dramatically increased. Currently, over 8,700 people in France are on the waiting list to receive donated sperm, while nearly 2,650 individuals await egg donations. Despite the increased demand, the number of donors remains insufficient to meet the needs of those seeking fertility treatment. In response to this growing disparity, the French biomédicine agency is launching a new awareness campaign aimed at encouraging more individuals to become donors. The campaign seeks to address the ongoing shortage and provide access to fertility assistance for those currently on the waiting lists across France. The situation highlights the continued challenges in balancing access to reproductive technologies with the availability of donated gametes.
