A former Russian propagandist, Ilya Remeslo, has been arrested and accused of spreading false information about the Russian army, a charge punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Remeslo, once a staunch supporter of Putin and vocal opponent of the opposition, dramatically changed his stance earlier this year, publicly calling for the leader to be held accountable. This shift followed a period of forced psychiatric treatment reminiscent of Soviet-era practices. Prior to his arrest, Remeslo made predictions on social media that Putin would "wear a shroud" this fall, reflecting a perceived deterioration of the president’s position. Public trust in Putin has reportedly declined, with a recent poll showing a five-point drop in approval ratings. Remeslo had previously testified against Alexei Navalny, contributing to his imprisonment, and later expressed feelings of guilt regarding Navalny’s death in custody.
