Former Peruvian National Police (PNP) chief Víctor Zanabria is facing eight years in prison following charges of serious injury to civilians during protests. This accusation is in addition to a separate 35-year sentence request related to the Víctor Santisteban case. Prosecutors are also investigating Zanabria for alleged corruption, illegal mining activities, and abuse of authority. In September 2025, the judiciary ordered his suspension in connection with the “Policías Albañiles” (Policeman Builders) case in Arequipa. The charges stem from actions taken while he was in a position of power within the PNP. These legal proceedings represent a significant development in ongoing investigations into alleged misconduct by high-ranking police officials. The case is being pursued by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
